My journey to Yunnan began in the city of Kunming, also known as the Spring City due to its year-round pleasant climate. Upon arrival, I was immediately struck by the city's modern architecture and the bustling energy of its streets. However, it was not long before I discovered the city's more traditional side. A visit to the翠湖公园 (Cuihu Park) offered a tranquil escape from the city's hustle and bustle, while the大观楼 (Daguan Pavilion) provided a glimpse into Kunming's rich history.
From Kunming, I journeyed to the ancient town of Lijiang, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The town's cobblestone streets, traditional architecture, and canals made it easy to imagine what life was like centuries ago. I had the opportunity to visit the黑龙潭公园 (Heilongtan Park), where I was awe-struck by the stunning scenery of waterfalls and mountains. Additionally, I was able to explore the束河古镇 (Shuhe Ancient Town), which boasts a more laid-back atmosphere than Lijiang, making it the perfect place to unwind and soak up the local culture.
My next stop was the city of Dali, known for its stunning natural beauty and vibrant arts scene. A visit to the洱海 (Erhai Lake) was an absolute must, and I spent an idyllic afternoon cycling around the lake, taking in the stunning views and the local way of life. I also had the opportunity to visit the Three Pagodas of Chongsheng Temple, which date back to the 9th century and stand as a testament to the region's rich Buddhist history.
From Dali, I made my way to the city of丽江 (Lijiang), which is famous for its well-preserved ancient town and beautiful scenery. I spent several days exploring the old town, which is surrounded by mountains on all sides, and marveled at the traditional architecture and cobblestone streets. I also had the opportunity to visit the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, which offers breathtaking views of the surrounding area.
My final stop in Yunnan was the city of西双版纳 (Xishuangbanna), which is known for its tropical climate and diverse wildlife. I spent a day at the热带植物园 (Tropical Botanical Garden), where I had the opportunity to see a wide variety of rare and exotic plants. I also had the opportunity to visit the Xishuangbanna National Nature Reserve, where I saw wild elephants, tigers, and other endangered species in their natural habitat.
