Day 1: Arrival in Kunming
After a long-awaited winter vacation, I finally set foot in the beautiful province of Yunnan. My journey began in the capital city of Kunming, also known as the Spring City due to its pleasant climate all year round. Upon arrival, I checked into a cozy hotel and rested for a while before heading out to explore the city.
Kunming is home to various attractions, such as翠湖 (Cuihu Lake), 西山 (Xishan Mountain), and 金马碧鸡坊 (Jinma Biji Fang), a famous pedestrian street bustling with activity. I decided to start with Cuihu Lake, where I admired the stunning scenery and the locals enjoying their daily lives. The lake was surrounded by blooming flowers and trees, making it a perfect spot for taking in the city's natural beauty.
Day 2: Exploring Dali
The next day, I took a train to the historic town of Dali, located in the northwest of Yunnan. The journey was picturesque, with mountains and rivers passing by my window. Upon arrival, I checked into a charming guesthouse nestled in the old town.
Dali is famous for its ancient architecture and rich cultural heritage. I started my exploration by visiting the 大理古城 (Dali Ancient Town), which dates back over 1,200 years. Strolling through the cobblestone streets, I admired the traditional Bai ethnic houses and shops selling local handicrafts. I also visited the 三塔寺 (Three Pagodas), a Buddhist temple complex with impressive architecture.
Day 3: Journey to Lijiang
After a fulfilling day in Dali, I continued my journey to the picturesque city of Lijiang. The city is known for its well-preserved ancient town and beautiful surroundings, including the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.
Upon arrival, I was immediately captivated by the charm of Lijiang's old town, which is surrounded by mountains and rivers. I checked into a quaint inn and spent the afternoon exploring the narrow streets and visiting the 黑龙潭公园 (Heilongtan Park), a beautiful garden with waterfalls and pavilions.
Day 4: Exploring Lijiang's Ancient Town
The next day, I dedicated my time to exploring Lijiang's ancient town, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The town is famous for its traditional architecture, with houses built in the style of the Naxi people. I started my tour at the 四方街 (Sifang Street), the town's main square, where I witnessed a traditional Naxi wedding ceremony.
I then visited the 木府 (Mufu), the former residence of the town's rulers, and the 束河古镇 (Shuhe Ancient Town), a nearby village with even more charming architecture and a slower pace of life. In the evening, I watched a performance of 丽水金沙 (Lishui Jinsha), a famous song and dance show that showcased the region's culture and history.
Day 5: Jade Dragon Snow Mountain
On my final day in Lijiang, I decided to visit the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, a stunning natural attraction located just outside the city. I took a cable car to the top of the mountain, where I was rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The mountain is home to various hiking trails, and I spent the afternoon exploring one of them.
Day 6: Return to Kunming
After a wonderful time in Lijiang, I took a flight back to Kunming. On my final day in Yunnan, I decided to visit the 石林 (Shilin) or Stone Forest, a unique geological formation made up of limestone pillars and formations. It was an incredible sight to behold, and I spent the afternoon exploring the various trails and taking in the stunning views.
